“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
It has barely been a week since Harvey made landfall and shook the lives of thousands from it’s very roots. Yet, here we are facing one of the strongest hurricanes in history, Irma. I had family that had to evacuate for Harvey. I also have family, and many friends who now need to evacuate because of Irma. Thankfully they are able to do so with ease. They have a place to run to, friends and family to help, etc. They have been blessed in this way.
However, I do understand those circumstances are not the same for everyone. We do not all have the money, transportation, or shelter needed at a moment’s notice. As a result of this, many civilians make the decision to stay and attempt to ride out the storm which in some cases is fine but, as we face Irma, I do not feel that this is the best decision.
I understand if you say that you do not have the;
But you want to know what you do have?
A God who loves you. I am not talking about love the way a mother loves a child, or a husband loves a wife. This love is a level that we will never be able to reach ourselves. We will NEVER love another human the way he loves us. So take the strongest love you have for someone and multiply it by infinity. He loves you more than that.
Let me repeat Joshua 1:9 for you.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
He will not instruct you to go on your way if he has not already laid out a path.
He will provide.
Oh you of little faith, Do you not know how much he loves you? Do you not know how great and powerful he is?
Do not worry about food, because he will feed you.
Do not worry about time because your version of “enough time” differs from his. God has all the time you can imagine, but even so, he doesn’t need it. You’ve heard the phrase “Rome wasn’t made in a day”? Well, that’s because man built it. We are talking about the God who created the ENTIRE UNIVERSE in a week.
Do not worry about how you will get there. Just know that God WILL get you there.
Do not worry about where you will sleep once you leave. Just know that he will have a place prepared.
Do not worry about friends or family because right now God is all you need.
Do not stay because you have nowhere to go or any way to get there. When you have a God as great as this one, every door is open for you. It takes a leap of faith. Think of every Bible story you have ever heard growing up. Not one character was given an easy task. Many times they even argue or run from God’s instruction because “I am unable. I do not have what I need” and he still told them to Go!
In the end, each decision belongs to the person making it. I will always encourage you to give your life to God, but today I will also encourage you to take that giant leap. If you or someone you know has faced or is facing one of these two storms my thoughts and prayers stay with you.
Remember, God’s got you!
